Is a recruit in USMC boot camp allowed to wear any jewelry such as a religious necklace? ?
My boyfriend will be going in at the end of may, and I wanted to get him a FSM necklace, but I wanted to make sure he could wear it when he gets in.
(FSM = Flying Spaghetti Monster, god of the Pastafarians)
FSM is a widely recognized religion. You can find the necklaces on a lot of websites.

Well I that is not a recognized religion so no. If it were a cross, Star of David, crescent moon, etc…. yes
BTW where do you get a fsm necklace?
Short answer . . . NO.
Even if it was “legal” . . . trust me . . . that is one place you do NOT want to stick out of be different. Better NOT to get the D.I.’s attention.
Dan in Miami
no
With all they will be doing, it would be best if he didn’t wear any jewelry. You wouldn’t want it lost or ruined.
Flying Spaghetti Moster? What kinda sick crap are people getting into these days!
But, no. Don’t have anything that would put one in the spotlight.
No. And if you send him that, his DI will eat him alive.
Please…do him a favor and DON’T send him anything that would make him stick out… you’d make his life so much harder XD the DI would rip off his head, and use his entrails and fluids to make a slip-n-slide…
sorry, couldn’t resist coming up with a new thing that the DI would do. I’ve heard quite a few, hahaha
if its a religious medallion they can wear it during the 5 or 10 minutes of religious time they get at the end of the day. Recruits are not allowed to wear anything on their neck during training. East Coast recruits dont get dog tags till the day before graduation….I think West Coast get thers while there in.. and they can wear only those during training.
not FSM, as that particular deity is NOT recognized by the US military at this time.
